In 1978, Apple recruited Mike Scott from National Semiconductor to serve as CEO for what turned out to be several turbulent years. In 1983, Jobs lured John Sculley away from Pepsi-Cola to serve as Apple’s CEO, asking, “Do you want to spend the rest of your life selling sugared water, or do you want a chance to change the world?”[59]
The Apple II is an 8-bit home computer, one of the first highly successful mass-produced microcomputer products,[49] designed primarily by Steve Wozniak (Jobs oversaw the development of the Apple II’s unusual case[11] and Rod Holt developed the unique power supply[50]). It was introduced in 1977 at the West Coast Computer Faire by Jobs and was the first consumer product sold by Apple Computer.
