This character, Elliot, is really drawing me in. He’s so fantastically flawed, beautifully destructive, sane and insane. His outlook on the world is perhaps pessimistic, or arrogant, but there is a truth in his words – his inner dialogue that comes across as well-written poetry. By the time you’re on episode four, the confusion somewhat kicks in. This is okay though, as each character is slowly becoming themselves in the show and synchronizing.
The only real problem I encountered with Explaindio was the bug with the audio in preview. This only affected the MP3 music audio, not the voice-over which played correctly in the preview. I am waiting to hear what customer support says about this problem.
But I have to politely disagree with the idea that the business owner should write her own script. Her job is to run the business not write videos. A good production company should assign the task of writing a good script to a qualified writer. This writer will ask all the questions needed to create a successful video and reach the right objectives. The interview process could take a couple of hours.
In my experience 80% of entrepreneurs/companies don’t know how to write scripts for explainer videos. It’s a completely new medium for them. I’ve worked with many clients (including large multi-nationals) that just give us truly awful scripts.
If I am making a plumber video, I open a template, change the phone number, and I am done! It already has images and video, it already has a voiceover and it already has supporting text. That is MUCH quicker than creating a similar video in After Effects or Final Cut Pro!
